어린이 환경보건 출생코호트 연구 배경
국가별로 다른 기후환경과 생활환경으로 인해 인간에게 영향을 미치는 환경적 요인이 다르게 나타납니다.
그리고 이는 해당 국가의 독특한 환경성질환으로 나타나게 됩니다. 또한 같은 환경적 요인에 의한 영향이라도 국민의 적응 상태와
유전적 특성, 상호작용에 따라 다른 나라와는 그 영향이 다르게 나타날 수가 있습니다.
우리나라 고유의 코호트 연구를 통해 과학적 데이터가 쌓이면 민감계층(영유아, 여성 등)에게 영향을 미치는 환경요인에 관한 자료를 얻을 수 있으며, 궁극적으로 국가가 국민을 위해 좋은 환경 보건 정책과 서비스를 마련할 수 있습니다.
특히 영유아 및 어린이는 성인에 비해서 신진대사가 빠르고 신체적 미성숙으로 인해 더욱 환경오염 노출에 민감합니다. 이미 세계적으로도 어린이의 환경위험요인의 증대에 관해 지적되어 왔으며, 1998년에 열린 G8 환경장관회의에서는 환경과 어린이를 의제로 환경파괴가 어린이에게 미치는 영향과 그 해결책에 초점을 맞춘 「어린이 건강과 환경」을 선언하였습니다. 덴마크, 노르웨이의 경우 1990년 중반부터 10만 명 규모의 어린이를 대상으로 하는 대규모 역학조사가 시작되었습니다.
우리나라에서도 2009년 이탈리아 시라쿠사에서 개최된 G8 환경장관회의 참석을 통해 대규모 어린이 환경보건 출생코호트*를 통한 환경노출과 질환 발생간의 인과성 분석 및 과학적 근거가 뒷받침되는 환경보건정책 추진이 필요하다는 것을 인식하게 되었습니다.

동일 특성을 가진 연구집단을 모집하여 시간에 따라 추적조사하여 위험요인에 대한 노출과 특정 질병발생의 연관성을 분석하는 연구
2009년에 시행된 환경보건법에는 '국가는 국민환경보건 수준을 조사·파악하여야 하며 산모 영유아 어린이와 같은 민감한 계층에 대해서 건강에 미치는 영향을 지속적으로 조사·평가할 의무가 있음' 을 명시하고 있습니다.
국가 어린이 환경보건 출생코호트는?
기후에너지환경부에서 시행하는 어린이 환경보건 출생코호트는 대한민국에 거주하고 있는 2015~2019년까지 임신한 7만명의 여성을 모집하여
환경유해물질이 성장발달, 신경인지발달(ADHD 등), 아토피 피부염 및 알레르기질환, 사회성 및 정서발달에 미치는 영향을
태아시기부터 청소년기까지 주기적으로 추적 관찰하는 연구입니다.
국가 ‘어린이 환경보건 출생코호트’ 연구는 유해물질 노출관련 환경성질환을 중심으로 5개 분야(임신, 출산, 알레르기질환, 성장발육 및 내분비계, 신경인지발달, 사회성 및 정서발달), 39개의 중점가설에 대해 입증할 예정이며, 이를 기반한 어린이환경보건 정책을 만들어 갈 예정입니다.
또한 산모·영유아기부터 청소년기까지 성장단계별 건강보호 가이드라인 및 환경오염물질 노출에 대한 합리적인 권고기준을 설정하고, 나아가 모든 국민들에게 제공할 수 있는 환경보건 서비스를 마련할 계획입니다.
당장 분석되지 않는 시료들도 국가 시료뱅크에 저장되어 이후 미래의 환경노출과 관련된 중요한 정보를 제공하는데 쓰이며 이는 중요한 국가의 자산이 될 것입니다.
